A British-Nigerian creative from North West London, Clint launched the brand with nothing more than a small run of screen-printed hoodies carrying a bold new logo — a silhouette of Alcatraz Island.

The very first drop was modest by any standard: just sixteen hoodies. There was no advertising budget, no celebrity seeding, and no fashion-week debut. Instead, the brand grew the way real streetwear always has — through word of mouth, social media, and a community that felt like it was in on something the rest of the world hadn’t discovered yet.

The Meaning Behind the Alcatraz Logo

The Alcatraz emblem isn’t just a design choice — it’s the entire philosophy of the brand in one image. Alcatraz, once known as an inescapable prison, became Corteiz’s symbol for breaking free from convention. The tagline that accompanies it, “Rules The World,” reflects that same spirit of independence and defiance against the traditional fashion industry.

This message resonated instantly with young people across the UK who felt disconnected from the polished, corporate feel of mainstream fashion houses. Corteiz wasn’t trying to be luxury. It was trying to be real.

  • In 2024, “Da Great Denim Exchange” brought the same concept to New York, where customers swapped jeans from any brand for a limited pair of Corteiz denim.

These weren’t traditional marketing campaigns. They were designed to be shared, talked about, and remembered — and they worked.

From Underground Label to Global Recognition

By the early 2020s, Corteiz had caught the attention of major names across music and fashion, with artists like Central Cee, Dave, and Stormzy regularly spotted wearing the brand’s signature tracksuits and t-shirts. In 2023, Corteiz partnered with Nike to release the Air Max 95 in exclusive colourways, a full-circle moment considering Nike had previously taken legal action against the brand over its name years earlier. That same year, Corteiz was nominated for the British Fashion Council’s New Establishment Menswear award, cementing its place as a serious force in the industry rather than just a passing trend.
